Electrical Tester (CET)

Carte is currently seeking a detailed and organized CET Electrical Tester to join and support our Test Department Team. The ideal candidate will be responsible to test single phase or three phase transformers according to specs and customer requirements. A Transformer Tester conducts meticulous assessments on electrical transformers to ensure optimal functionality. Responsibilities include performing routine tests, diagnosing issues, and maintaining detailed reports on transformer conditions

What You’ll Need to be Successful

  • Completion of community college electrical technologist program or equivalent as approved by CTTAM.
  • CTTAM letter approving eligibility of certification as an electrical technologist with CET designation is required.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings specifications.
  • Must possess good math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, conversions of fractions and decimals.
  • Experience using electrical and manual tools.
  • Must be capable of performing physical job requirements; lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders safely, and consistently reach, bend, sit, and stand.
  • Must be able to be certified as a FORKLIFT OPERATOR and OVERHEAD CRANE OPERATOR.
  • Must be willing to work in other departments on a temporary basis as assigned by the manager.
  • Must be available to work all shifts – days, afternoons, midnights (Mandatory).

What You’ll be Doing:

  • Testing of single and three phase transformers to ensure products meet engineering and customer specifications including:
    • Ratio (coil), vector (correct coil wiring), dissipation (coil is dry and all moisture removed), dielectrics (low voltage hipot, high voltage hipot, Lighting Impulse, and Induce), NoLoad (loss in the core), resistance (winding), Load Loss (loss in the coil), meggar (insulation in the unit), polarization (moisture content in the insulation), and sound level.
  • Accessory testing, and subcomponent testing at incoming, in progress, or final stages.
  • Resolve winding/wiring errors on the line.
  • Troubleshoot and report dielectric failures.
  • Complete Fix Form for nonconformances.
  • Prepare test reports.
  • Work with the engineering group on research and development, testing and procedures.
  • Inspection of assembled units.
  • Use of meters including ratio, dissipation, voltage, current power, sound level, and radio interference.
  • Use of equipment including DC hipot, AC hipot, lighting impulse, scopes, RTD and thermocouple chart recorders, resistance bridges and meters, and thermocouple probes and indicators.
  • Complete assigned tasks and ensure performance targets and qualities are met.
  • Maintain equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the work area.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety and health regulations.
