Carte International has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, independent, and highly motivated Maintenance Millwright to join the maintenance team. As a member of the team, you will work closely with the Industrial Engineering, Production and Continuous Improvement teams. You will participate in team efforts to achieve department goals, complete tasks on time and according to SOP’s and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will be proactive, reliable, and possess strong troubleshooting skills, a great team player, with the ability to collaborate with other trades to minimize downtime and ensure maximum equipment efficiency.
Key responsibilities:
- Daily/weekly/monthly and annual reviews of equipment to ensure PMs are adequately created/performed to work towards and sustain manufacturing phase progression.
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, repair, troubleshoot, replace, install, and maintain:
- Dismantle, repair and assemble equipment as required by manufacturing specifications and standards.
- Install, troubleshoot and maintain power transmission, vacuum, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Follow all safety precautions (i.e. lockouts) and procedures when carrying out work on equipment.
- Log all updates in the Preventative Maintenance HIPPO Log.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects and complete work orders according to PM schedules.
- Fabricate repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
- Maintain and repair physical structures including fences, gates and roofs.
- Perform electrical repairs and troubleshooting in accordance with codes, blueprints, and manuals.
- Perform metal fabrication operations including layout, drilling, tapping, sawing, and grinding.
- Perform welding/flame cutting applicable to MIG, stick, oxy-acetylene, and plasma cutting.
- Safe use of equipment including forklift, skid steer loader, scissor lifts, power tools. Proficiency in safe methods of hoisting and rigging at all times.
- Ability to perform work at heights using scissor lift, articulated lift, and ladders.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety and health regulations.
- Oversee contractors performing professional repairs.
- Work during scheduled shutdown, shift work and overtime to accommodate scheduled maintenance equipment.
- Must be on call on weekends on a rotational basis and must report in a reasonable time if called back to work.
What you will need to be successful
- Certified Millwright – Inter-Provincial Industrial Mechanic Millwright License (Red Seal) plus 3 years experience or a combination of education and years of manufacturing work experience in the trade. Metal industry experience preferred.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with ability to maintain and repair machines and equipment.
- Excels in locating, investigating, and diagnosing failures, irregularities and malfunctions.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints, maintenance work orders, logs and repair manuals as necessary.
- Able to work in a team environment and independently under minimal supervision.
- Previous exposure to working with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (Hippo)
- Working use of computer programs (i.e. Hippo, Excel, and Outlook)
- Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks with a keen sense of urgency.
- Experience and proficiency in the use of machine shop equipment, hand, power and measuring tools, and electrical and manual tools (hoists, saws, drills, etc.).
- Valid Manitoba driver’s license.
- Understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanics
- Experience in lathe and milling, electrical, welding and plumbing are considered assets.
- Proficient in standards, codes, best practices, safe work policies and practices.
- Ability to complete required daily paperwork with legible penmanship.
- Good verbal and written communication skills with the proven ability to clearly understand instructions and communicate one-on-one.
- Ability to work with internal and external people at all levels.

Competencies
- Sound knowledge of manufacturing / industrial equipment

- Completion of mandatory Health & Safety training including Lockout, Confined Space Entry, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
- International Standards Organization (ISO), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and 5S.
- Able to move from one task to another efficiently and accurately.
