Product Team Manager

We are looking for an experienced Product Team Manager to join our dynamic team to help execute our vision and ensure the smooth delivery of our products.

The Product Team Manager provides overall management to a Product Design Team, covering the range of technical and commercial elements that may arise at the operational and customer interface. Will have overall customer knowledge and commercial execution spanning several functional areas and broad portions of the overall customer base. Specific focus of the daily role of Product Team Manager will vary based on their knowledge, skills and abilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Customer Relationships

  • Work closely with the Sales group and other Carte Team members to foster customer relationships that strive towards long-term, on-going transformer business for Carte for many years.
  • Work with multiple internal suppliers towards meeting the challenges associated with providing superior customer service to external customers.
  • Participate in customer visits to Carte, providing plant tours and fostering discussion towards relationship building.
  • Provide direct support to Sales group by making joint sales calls, as needed, at customer’s offices or virtually.
  • Participate with Sales in customer visits to support long-term relationships and/or large bid submisisons (bid presentation), possibly involving overnight travel.

Team management / team scheduling

  • Responsible for the general work, direction, focus of the team, and team operation and performance.  Work is to be completed on a timely basis (focus on error reduction) to support overall product delivery commitments.
  • Manage the team responsibly and with fairness.
  • Plan for good coverage of Team to other functional areas with respect to vacation plans for Team members and yourself. 
  • Respect the operational production schedule with best efforts to satisfy the requirements of the schedule within the constraints of the team resources to meet manufacturing release milestones, covering: preliminary drawings, manufacturing drawings, bills of material, and any other related manufacturing instructions.

Design oversight

  • Provide technical support to other designers, sales staff, marketing, manufacturing or customers as needed.
  • Participate in trouble-shooting Manufacturing/Design issues as needed.
  • Take an active role in implementating specific electrical and or mechanical design rules as revisions or significant changes become required towards design productivity improvements, manufacturing cycle time reduction, overall process enhancements, system changes, etc.
  • Follow-up on corrective actions needing to be updated by Team members as required.

Continuous Improvement / Lean Initiative

  • Show lean-thinking leadership by providing input and ideas, working to increase productivity with fewer errors.
  • Seek product, system, and process improvements to enhance design and flow of information.
  • Be an active participant in Carte’s Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Work with Manufacturing and other functional areas to consider and implement product design changes, drawings system revisions, communication methods, or other system enhancements to improve product flow or mitigate risk (error prevention).
  • Additional Lean training may be suggested at times.

Repair Order (RO) Coordination

  • Consult with Manufacturing, Production Control and others as needed and/or the customer for any repairs required (for assigned products and customers).
  • Oversee RO package generation for assigned products, and consult Product Team designers as necessary
  • Follow-up on design and manufacturing progress to meet expected return schedule.
  • Assist other functional areas and stakeholders to compress RO turnaround when RUSH repairs are required of Carte (eg. large facility without power).

General expectations

  • Prepare, conduct, and complete objective performance reviews as prompted by Human Resources.
  • Promote product quality, safety, and excellent customer service.
  • Complete work assignments and special projects in a timely manner.
  • Other duties that may be assigned from time-to-time by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree is preferred, preference given to Bachelors of Science in Electrical/Mechincal Engineering
    • Certified Electrical/Mechicanical Technologist may be considered equivalent.
    • Suitable combination of broad-based transformer knowledge coupled with a college technical program (eg. Machine Drafting) also acceptable.
    • Several years in a technical managerial role may be considered equivalent.
  • Several years of leadship or superivory experience.
  • Lean training: Lean 101 and any additional lean manufacturing training desirable.

  • Able to delegate responsibility and decision-making to team members.
